Goodbye Rome, Hello Malta

As our Adriatic cruise came to an end in Rome, it was time to say goodbye to son #3 and our daughter-in-law. They were spending the day touring Rome before heading home the following day, while the rest of us had another little adventure ahead of us.

We had such a wonderful time having the family together. It was great to share these experiences, explore new places and make memories as a family. I knew the trip had to come to an end eventually, but I wasn't quite ready for it. Saying goodbye was hard, even knowing we still had more travelling ahead of us.

John and I, along with son #1 and son #2, were off the ship early in the morning to catch the ship's airport shuttle. We were flying to Malta, where we planned to spend three nights exploring before John and I continued on to Barcelona for our transatlantic cruise.

Malta was an add-on to our trip. We had three days to fill between cruises, didn't want to spend them in Rome again, and hoped to find somewhere that wouldn't cost too much. When we asked ChatGPT for suggestions, Malta came up as an affordable option with inexpensive flights. After doing a little research of our own, we thought it sounded like the perfect place for a short stay. Son #1 and son #2 thought so too and decided to extend their trip to join us.

After landing, we made our way to our Airbnb in the old town of Valletta, where we are now. We settled in and took a little time to catch our breath before heading out to explore our surroundings and find somewhere for dinner.

It didn't take long to feel that choosing Malta had been a good decision. There was history everywhere we looked, and Valletta seemed to have plenty to discover.

The streets were lively, with people enjoying dinner at the outdoor cafés. Music filled the air, and the temperature was perfect for wandering around. We took our time exploring a little and enjoying the atmosphere before settling in for the evening.

It was a lovely start to our short stay in Malta, and I was looking forward to seeing more of what this little island had to offer.
