Virgin Gorda
A Day in Virgin Gorda: Exploring The Baths
During one of our cruise stop in Tortola, which is in the British Virgin Islands, we decided to do something a little different. We left most of the crowds behind and headed to a neighbouring Island called Virgin Gorda.
It turned out to be one of the highlights of the trip.
The trip over was an easy one. The ferry terminal was a quick walk down the street from the cruise port, and the ferry ride only took about 30 minutes. It was all very easy and made for a nice little adventure away from the cruise crowds.
When we arrived, there were shuttles waiting to take visitors over to The Baths, which is what Virgin Gorda is best known for.
It’s made up of massive granite boulders that are scattered along the shoreline, creating natural tunnels, caves, and little pools of water. As you make your way through, you’ll come across areas like the Cathedral Room, and the trails eventually lead you out to beautiful beaches, including Devil’s Bay, where the water is perfect for swimming and snorkeling.
It’s a place that’s definitely worth taking the time to explore.
After arriving, we made our way down the path toward the beach.
And honestly, we were blown away.
We spent the next hour just floating around in the water, completely undisturbed. It was calm, peaceful, and one of those moments where you really feel like you’ve found something special.
Eventually, we decided to explore a bit more.
We followed the trails that wound their way through the boulders, climbing over rocks and making our way into the caves. It was such a unique experience. We waded through these natural formations, with sunlight softly filtering in through the openings above, taking our time to enjoy the experience and to enjoy a little swim along the way.
It was amazing. It was beautiful. And it was unlike anything we had experienced before.
As we made our way through the caves, we eventually came out onto the other side and onto a beach that was much busier with people.
We had a quick swim there, but after the quiet, secluded spot we had earlier we didn't want to linger.
Before long, it was time to make our way back.
We headed back to catch the ferry, made the short trip back to Tortola, and returned to the ship - grateful that we had taken the time to venture a little further that day.
Looking back, it was one of those simple decisions that turned into a really memorable experience.
Virgin Gorda, and especially The Baths, is a must-see spot if you're ever in Tortola!

The best places are always off the beaten path. And is that a cactus?
