December Has Arrived
December is here! It's my favourite time of the year, but also the busiest. I have spent the greater part of the last week scattering Christmas decor over every inch of our home, compiling many lists, and spending way too much time on Amazon. Bring on all the chaos, busyness, and celebrations. I couldn't be happier!
I've been largely absent from this platform - not because I've had nothing to share, but because I've been busy life-ing and at the end of the day I've had no energy to organise my thoughts. Since my last post we took a 27-day trip which saw us flying to Paris, then onto Barcelona where we boarded a 24-day cruise that would take us back across the Atlantic and eventually ending in Miami. (Yes, if you have followed this blog for a while, you'll know that we took a trans Atlantic last year and weren't eager to do another anytime soon. Fortunately this crossing was a vastly different experience. More on this trip coming soon.)
Now that we're home, we've hit the ground running. I had to make a complete 180 degree turn from vacation mode (where I didn't have anything to do but relax) into full-on Christmas. My plan is to make the most of this season - to enjoy festivities going on around me, and not just running around grasping my to-do list. That's the plan, and I think I'm off to a decent start.
A couple of days ago I spent the day with my 90 year-old mother. She wanted to go do some Christmas shopping. She lives in a small town which limits what she can buy, so we drove an hour away to London, Ontario, where there are endless shopping opportunities. It was a fun day of driving from store to store (do you hear the sarcasm in my voice?) but at the end of the day she managed to get something for everyone on her list. After grabbing a bite to eat, I had a plan to make the day more memorable. I had purchased tickets for the Magic of Lights.
The Magic of Lights is a unique 2.5km drive-through Christmas light show. As we drove through the entrance, along the dark road going into Fanshawe Park, we were suddenly surrounded by bright, playful light displays. Colorful arches, sparkling characters, and twinkling trees turned the night into something warm and festive. We drove through the different sections such as the Toy section, Prehistoric Christmas, and Nativity, trying to take in each display. There were so many it made it impossible to appreciate each one. (of course the photos don't do it justice.)
It’s was easy, cozy kind of outing - no rush, no crowds, just my mom and I, cozy in the car, the snow softly falling, driving along a winding path of sparkling lights. It was simple, joyful, and just a really lovely way to enjoy the lights.
