Accommodations for Wintering in Punta Cana

I feel like we were really lucky with our first winter in Punta Cana. We didn’t know much about the area, but we picked the location and the rental because we knew the owners and felt confident it would be a great choice. It was a beautiful 2-bedroom, newly built condo in the beachside village of El Cortecito.

El Cortecito in Punta Cana is a charming neighborhood that offers a unique combination of local culture, beautiful beaches, good restaurants, and a relaxed atmosphere. It's a perfect place to spend three months out of the snow.

Vacation rentals are an increasingly popular option for extended stays in El Cortecito.  There are plenty of rentals that offer all the comforts of home, with added benefits like kitchens, laundry facilities, and private spaces. The options are many, making it easy to find something that works for many budgets.

Top Benefits of Vacation Rentals:

  • Cost-Effective: Renting for an extended period often works out to be more affordable than booking a hotel room, especially if staying for a month or longer.

  • Home Comforts: Vacation rentals typically come fully furnished and equipped with kitchen appliances, allowing you to cook your own meals and live more independently.

  • Privacy: With your own space, you can enjoy a more private and personal experience without the hustle and bustle of hotel guests.

We fell in love with El Cortecito in Punta Cana from the moment we arrived.  The condo complex was just what we were looking for - beautiful complex, gorgeous units, great pool, and a friendly community - and about a 7 minute walk to the beautiful beach. 4 years later, we are still renting here with no plans of going elsewhere.

  2. Wow - looks wonderful! I vistied Punta Cana almost 30 years ago. I do not recall it looking like the pictures you posted - LOL. Actually at that time, we stayed on a resort and were told not to go off property because it was not safe. I just looked up the resort - it has a new name, Meliá Caribe Beach Resort. It was beautiful then, and looks even better now. Enjoy your Snow Bird lifestyle!

    1. we first came to Dominican Republic 37 years ago, and no, it certainly didn't look like it does now. The tourist industry was just beginning then.

  3. A 7-minute walk to the beach sounds perfect! And I see what you mean about choosing a vacation rental instead of a hotel. That does make more sense.
