A Day of Travel, and Making it to the Other End

If you read my last post you would have read about my flight being cancelled at 11pm ahead of my 7am flight the next morning. I was able to finally get some sleep and make it to the airport for my new 10am flight. The change in flight plans meant that my friends would make it to Fort Lauderdale an hour ahead of me, and would have to wait around the airport for an hour until I arrived, before we could pick up the car rental, as it was in my name.

After the mini crisis the night before, luck was on my side. Check-in was quick, security was a breeze, and there was no line-up at the US Immigration (when flying out of Toronto, you must do the US Immigration at the Toronto airport - and its usually a very long line.) I made it to my gate with plenty of time to get a cup of tea and breakfast, and chat with other passengers who were on the same cancelled flight as I was, and rebooked on the same flight that I managed to get on.

Mt friends were not so lucky.  They were flying on a different airline out of a different terminal.  They had lineups all the way through, especially at US Immigration

Luck continued for me.  I had no one seated in my row, which meant I could spread out.

We were delayed leaving as we had to wait in line for plane de-icing before take off.

I made it to Fort Lauderdale before my friends, as their flight was delayed. By the time I picked up the rental car they were just finishing getting their luggage. The timing couldn't have been any better.

After a shopping stop to pick up a few things we apparently needed for the cruise, we made it to the hotel in time to unload, and go for an early dinner.

We were officially in Vacation Mode!
