Cool Ride, Fun Adventures

In the Spring of 2023, I told John that I wanted to get myself an E-bike.  He always loved going out for rides and was always asking me to come along, but I just didn't have the stamina to keep up with him, or to go very far. My bike sat in the garage, lonely and unused.

John wasn't interested in getting one for himself but he knew it would be a good way to get me back into riding.  Neither of us knew much about e-bikes.  In the little research we did, I knew that I just wanted a bike with a battery that would allow me to go far.  I also knew that I wanted a throttle that I could use when my legs got tired and I could just coast along.

Without much investigation, we started checking out bikes at Costco.  In Canada, they sell a brand called EBGO.  It had what I was looking for  We knew that we would be able to return it if it didn't preform as expected and it was on sale (always a good thing, right?) So, we ordered it online for home delivery and it arrived a couple of days later.

I was eager to try it out.  So John jumped on his bike, and we both went out together to ride on one of the trails fairly close to home.  It was great.  One trail led to another, and then another.  I don't know how long we were out that first day, but by the time we decided to head for home, John was already tired.  For the first time, he was the one having a hard time keeping up with me. The trip back home was exhausting for him, and within a couple of days (and a few rides on my bike) John decided that it would be good idea it he got an e-bike too.  A week later we were riding all over on our new bikes.

We've spent a lot of time out on our bikes, exploring many bike and rail trails in Southern Ontario.  We go out as often as we can, usually riding about 40 kms each time.  While I still don't know much about the different brands of bikes or what to look for when buying one, I do know that the EBGO bikes we have perform well.  Other then the chain occasionally falling off (usually after hitting a big bump or trying to change gears too quickly) we haven't had any issues.  They have been well used and one of the best purchases we've made in a long time.
